Andesite Marble Figure

This carving penetrates a massive block of Andesite marble, from the Andes mountain ranges in South America. The carve exposes the interior, and highlights the subtle, turquoise/robin’s egg blue of the stone. The speckled patterns and hashmarks in the stone are the mineral feldspar. The piece is based on another slab of Andesite marble. Amusingly, among stone carvers, Andesite is affectionally known as, “Chinese, picture-writing rock."
