Burden

This figure is a crucifix, representing the implications of bearing the heaviest of burdens. The components are noteworthy: The crosspiece is carved from oak, the barbed wire “halo” was borrowed from a Kansas limestone fencepost, and suspended above the crosspiece. The torso is a solid block of Utah lava, and the figurative “legs” of the sculpture is a block of Texas sandstone. Individually, the components seem unrelated, but when assembled, the sections unite to create a moving image.
